Project Description:
Nestled in the tranquil town of Shirala, Maharashtra, Nirvana House is designed as a contemporary weekend home offering a serene getaway amidst nature. Surrounded by lush green landscapes and rooted in local context, the home is a retreat that balances privacy, openness, and architectural expression.
The residence spans 1,500 sq. ft., featuring a 3BHK layout with a central family lounge, intended for relaxed gatherings and slow-paced living. The planning emphasizes indoor-outdoor connection, with each bedroom opening to a private balcony, inviting natural light and panoramic views of the surrounding greenery.

Architecturally, the mass composition plays with geometry and contrast. The facade showcases a bold, minimalist vocabulary — two strong rectangular volumes frame the structure on either side, rendered in white stucco-finished massing, softened with vertical timber cladding. Between these, a cantilevered central unit projects 7 feet outward, acting as a striking focal point and anchoring the visual symmetry of the elevation. This volume is articulated with vertical wooden fins, providing rhythm, depth, and solar shading.
The material palette is a refined combination of concrete grey, natural wood, and off-white finishes, creating a warm yet contemporary feel. Expansive glazed openings framed in timber bring in daylight while enhancing the interplay between solid and void. The stairwell skylight introduces vertical light penetration, animating the interior spaces throughout the day.
The landscape design is kept minimal, featuring planter beds integrated with the steps, and a foreground tree that softens the approach while grounding the structure in its natural context. This restrained landscaping enhances the building’s clean lines without overpowering the facade.

Design Philosophy:
Nirvana House embodies a design approach that values clarity, balance, and connection to nature. Through simple geometry, honest materials, and a play of light and shadow, the project reflects a philosophy rooted in quiet luxury and spatial mindfulness — where architecture serves both function and a sense of retreat.
